Dr. Penelope Treece is a North Carolina native where she began her career as an artist in early childhood. “Well, my grandmother was the first to purchase one of my oils, but she also encouraged me to pursue medicine.” She went on to be accepted to the School of Math and Science and attended college and medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Although she did research in Dermatology and Radiology, her artistic roots and thrill for Anatomy led to her attraction for the Surgical Specialties. Thus was her path to New Orleans to complete her internship and residency at Louisiana State University Department of Surgery, Charity Hospital. Charity Hospital was one of the oldest and largest hospitals in America before Hurricane Katrina led to its demise.
The extensive patient load at Charity allowed Dr. Treece to publish research on the ground breaking and innovative technique for Breast Reconstruction: The DIEP Flap. After additional training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Medical College of South Carolina in Charleston, she was in private practice for three years in Atlanta. Ultimately, her love of New Orleans and all it encompasses: the dining, the architecture, the history and the mix of the arts, interesting people and cultures; called her “home.”
In New Orleans, she concentrates her private practice to Breast Cancer Detection and Aesthetic Surgery. She is a board certified surgeon and is a member of multiple societies including the American Board of Surgery, American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, American Society of Breast Surgeons, Louisiana State Medical Society, and the Orleans and Jefferson Parish Medical Societies, to name a few. On staff at numerous area hospitals, she retains patients as far as Australia and Malaysia, and still finds time to contribute to the training of medical students.
Dr. Treece loves to travel and design. She continues to sculpt and paint as displayed in her office and local galleries. Whether you are concerned about a breast mass, wrinkles, or need a major mommy makeover, Dr. Treece and her staff are committed to addressing your options and getting results with your safety and recovery as their primary concern.
